" I just wanted to take moment to share the impact this event had on our family last year. A cancer diagnosis is a scary thing, it seems everything moves so fast and yet so slow at the same time. When we were approached about having a golf tournament and us as the beneficiaries, at that moment I did not have a clue, the impact that it would have on our family. Financially yes it was huge, it did help with the 1 milllion dollar medical bill, for treatments/multiple surgeries she needed to save her life. Everyone knows someone who has been on this journey, but only a few know the financial hardship it can cause. With Birdie For A Cause it definitely eased some of that burden. While the financial aspect is really nice, for us it was the love and outpouring of support from our family and friends, it’s still tough to hold back the tears as I write this, from how honored, humbled and loved we felt that day. I don’t think you could wipe the smile from her face that day seeing all of her closest friends, family and hell people we didn’t even know come to support her/us! That day couldn’t have been possible without the generosity of everyone who signed up for a tee time, or the sponsors who made this event what it was for my family. I am truly grateful for this event. If you are on the fence about a tee time or if you know a sponsor, reach out, please don’t hesitate. This is the best golf tournament you will play in! And it’s for a great cause on top of it!"
As we approach the 2nd Annual Birdie For A Cause Golf event, it brings back so many memories of last year. We were astonished watching the community come together, near and far, to show their support for our family. I still have a hard time finding the words to express my gratitude. I can’t help to think about how incredibly helpful it was for our family, not only financially but, emotionally. Remembering all the familiar faces we were able to hug, the new faces we were able to meet and all the laughter and happy tears the day brought to us. It was just what our hearts needed to continue down this incredibly hard journey. So, thank you!
Cancer SUCKS but, the community it brings is fierce. We have YOU to thank for that. Every single one of you reading this. From messages, stopping by for a quick hug, volunteers, sponsors, golfers, raffles, the list goes on. Let’s come together and make this roller coaster of the year for our dear friends, Mike and Teresa, a little bit easier.
If you have time to enjoy some golf, eat delicious food, drink a beer or two, laugh and possibly shed some tears, make sure you get your teams in now. Your entry will be an amazing help. If you are on the edge of sponsoring, don’t think twice. Your generosity will ensure this year’s deserving beneficiaries the ability to continue their fight against this horrible disease. Can’t attend and want to help? We are taking donations for raffle prizes and would appreciate any little bit you can provide. Reach out to heidi@garagedooroflynchburg.com and they will be sure to help you!
Gene and Alison, without you, none of this would be possible. Your hearts are huge and this event proves your selflessness. You will never know how much it meant to us. Heidi, thank you for your hard work and detailed planning. Watching all of it come together flawlessly, goes to show how much of your heart you put into it. Everything was perfect.
I’ve seen it firsthand, what our community can do and I cannot wait for our family to continue to volunteer for years to come! I hope to see you there!
